This is the story of how a city boy from Indianapolis, Indiana, and a country girl from Piner, Kentucky, ended up in the heart of Owenton and created Ziggy's Physical Therapy…
Our story begins in 1989, when Jim Ziege, PT ABDA, (pronounced "Ziggy") graduated from the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana. (He has more than 35 years of experience working in the physical therapy field!)
Jim Ziege first worked at American Hospital for Rehabilitation (now known as Health South) in Edgewood, Kentucky, next to St. Elizabeth Edgewood, quickly specializing in neuro with strokes, spinal cord injuries, and especially with Guillain Barre Syndrome patients.
He met the love of his life, Kimberly Beighle, from Piner, Kentucky, who was the executive administrative assistant for the hospital’s CEO. After they got married on June 2, 1990, they moved to Lexington, Kentucky, in September 1990 so that Jim could take the assistant director of physical therapy position at Good Samaritan Hospital.
In June 1991, Jim and Kimberly moved back to Northern Kentucky so Jim could become the Director of Physical Therapy at St. Luke West Hospital in Florence, Kentucky. While working there, he sharpened his skills with orthopedic, geriatric, pediatric, neurological, and work related injury patients. He became a Board Certified Disability Analyst, Certified Impairment Rater, Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist, and Functional Capacity Evaluation/On-site Job Analysis Specialist. He was also in charge of growing the department.
In 1995, the same year Jim and Kimberly had Zack, their first child, Jim opened a satellite office in Dry Ridge, Kentucky (called Dry Ridge Physical Therapy), where he offered out-patient services in a small-town setting, while still being the director at St. Luke West.
But after Jim and Kim had their second child, Nicole, in 1997, they decided to take a leap of faith, and Jim decided to start his own physical therapy clinic. With help, they started Physical Therapy Concepts in Warsaw, Kentucky.
Physical Therapy Concepts was more than a clinic. It was a way to provide physical therapy services to Gallatin County Schools, First Steps, Emerald Industries in Florence, Kentucky, SSE Manufacturing (Schwan’s Pizza), Atkins and Pearce and Mobile FCE’s throughout the state, as well as rehab services at Sysco Foods in Cincinnati, Ohio.
In 2003, Jim was asked by Bernie Poe to take over the physical therapy at the New Horizons Medical Center in Owenton, Kentucky. In 2008, with the hospital getting busier and with Jim adding to the mix his services at Owen County Schools, Jim and Kimberly shut down their Warsaw clinic.
Then, in November 2015, while facing the looming shutdown of New Horizons Medical Center, Jim and Kimberly decided to take another leap of faith. They knew they didn’t want to leave behind Owenton and the wonderful people there who had been so good to them through the years.
So they decided to start Ziggy's Physical Therapy!
In 2017, renovations to Ziggy's Physical Therapy were completed, and Kaylee Fitzgerald joined the team as a physical therapy technician. Through the years, our staff has continued to grow, and we appreciate all of their hard work in keeping our operation running!
Then, in 2023, Ziggy’s Physical Therapy moved to a new location: 318 N. Main Street, Suite 1.
But this unexpected move didn’t stop us! We’ve continued to thrive as a company, and our values have remained the same: At Ziggy’s Physical Therapy, we will always be dedicated to providing personalized healthcare to our patients to help them achieve their greatest potential and make a full recovery. We really appreciate the love and support we’ve received from the people of Owenton.
